BTCompetition
BT came to a team of us with a problem. They stated that with the introduction of smart TVs and new generation high performance gaming consoles, fast and reliable internet is in very high demand. According to BT wifi is not giving the performance required.
Traditional cable internet gives the performance needed for smart TVs, gaming consoles and streaming data required for movies. Wifi is affected by many things within the home. Microwave ovens and baby monitors are just some of the products that operate within the 2.4GHz band which compromise wifi. Therefore our team went about finding solutions to make cable installation easy and attractive for the consumer.

The product concept was that of a device that will be able to lay out the flat Ethernet along a house wall without causing any punctures and dirt. Some of the design challenges that this concept brought up were: Going around corners In plane bending Door hinges/ doorway obstruction Termination.
At first, the corner problem was dealt with by inserting brackets that aided the user to spread the Ethernet without causing cable damage due to bending. However, further research showed that bending of this cable is not a problem. In fact the cable can also be folded without signal interference and thus this solved the problem of in-plane bending.
